Agonizing in Arizona – A Pastoral Pondering on Immigration Policy

Caution! This blog is about to heat up with controversy! Arizona and Immigration are the topic.

Archbishop Dolan from New York recently blogged on the issue of Immigration and the recent developments in Arizona. And he did what every good blogger does, he kept it a bit edgy. I am going to excerpt that blog below but would like to make a introductory comments of my own, and, as always, invite your comments.

These comments of mine try to strike a balance.

Navigating our immigration laws is something that makes even trained lawyers cry. I have personally tried to help individuals I know renew their status and it is surely a bewildering process. It is IRS Law on steroids.

This is very true. Federal law is schizophrenic and confusing on this and it is clear that we do need a rewriting of the law. However, I'm worried about what's going to happen if it's done while Bambi and the Dems are in charge.

I think that, in general, Hispanic immigrants are a positive and, as Msgr Pope pointed out, the second generation is quite well assimilated.

However, Obama is not going to favor Hispanic immigrants, because he doesn't want people who are Christian and come from countries that have a European background and European political concepts. He has already announced that he thinks the US should pro-actively strive to bring in more Muslim and African (presumably Muslim Africans, of course) immigrants. These people come from profoundly different cultures, have a religion that hates us but wants to impose itself on us at the same time, live under its law and will not accept ours, speak languages that have nothing in common with English, have no similar political philosophy (except for those who are Marxists), and simply, IMHO, are not the kind of immigrants we want or need. But brace yourselves, because that's what Obama and the Dems are going to bring us.

I did not realize that Msgr Pope was a nativist and a know-nothing. And when did he join the Klan?

(His excellency basically compared those who oppose illegal aliens to those folks, so what His excellency says must be true)
